Leicester UCU statement on NZ terrorist attack

Published: 15th March, 2019

Leicester UCU is appalled and horrified to hear of the fascist attack on the Muslim community of Christchurch, New Zealand. We would like to extend our love to those affected by the horrific attack in which 49 people have lost their lives. We are disturbed to hear increasing incidents of Islamophobia, throughout the world. The climate of hatred against Muslims must stop.

Today, the eve of the UN anti-racism day, we are reminded once again that the fight to eradicate racism continues. We commit to continue working to eradicate racism from our workplace and our communities – tackling racism is a fight which we must all participate in. We utterly condemn these attacks and stand in solidarity with our Muslim friends and comrades, in Leicester, New Zealand and throughout the world.

Tomorrow there are events in London (https://www.facebook.com/events/2013107605418593/), Glasgow (https://www.facebook.com/events/glasgow-un-anti-racism-day-demonstration/2242706462615178/) and Cardiff (https://www.facebook.com/events/935115200024518/), to demonstrate against racism. We encourage all who are able to attend.
