Leicester UCU and its members will be on strike 1-3 December.
This is in defence of the four fights: 1) Improved working conditions; 2) Closing of equality pay gaps; 3) Increased pay; and 4) An end to casualisation.
In the recent ballot, our branch achieved a mandate for strike action and action short of strike (ASOS) in the name of the Four Fights:
50.2% of members voted
59.6% in favour of strike action
69.9% in favour of action-short-of-strike.
More information about the Four Fights can be found here.
As Leicester UCU achieved the mandate for strike action over the Four Fights, we will be taking part in industrial action to defend our working conditions, in line with national UCU policy. ASOS will also begin on 1 December and run for six months until 3 May 2022. Full information, and details of the branches involved, can be found here.
We call on all members to strike, and to observe ASOS for the duration of the mandate.
This action is overwhelmingly supported by the National Union of Students, with 73% supporting industrial action by University staff – full text here.
More details will follow shortly, and will be circulated to members accordingly. If you wish to help organise and mobilise, please contact your departmental rep, or contact us directly on ucu@uculeicester.org.uk
If you are not a UCU member, join today and help in the fight against poor working conditions, pay cuts, equality pay gaps and casual contracts.
